Derry lies on low hills on the bend of the River Foyle before it broadens out into the Lough. Derry is one of Ireland’s oldest cities and it’s centre is still enclosed by walls built in the 17th century. It is the only remaining walled city in Ireland and one of the finest examples in Europe. Take a walking tour to reveal its historic past. There are a wide range of visitor attractions to explore including the Tower Museum which chronicles the history of the city from it geological formation to the present day and the magnificent Guildhall with its lavish neo-gothic design. St Columb’s Cathedral dating back to 1633, was the first post reformation Cathedral in Western Europe.
The Giant’s Causeway, Bushmills and the rugged Antrim coastline are all within an hour of Derry. To the north lies the Inishowen Peninsula and Donegal. For golfers, City of Derry Golf Club, Ballyliffen and Royal Portrush are within driving distance of the hotel and Foyle International Golf Centre offers championship golf just minutes away..
For lovers of the fine and dramatic arts there are a host of galleries, cinemas and museums. With its strong musical tradition, the city is home to many festivals throughout the year like the Walled City Festival (Oct) or the Jazz & Big Band Festival (May). The Millennium Forum, Derry’s newest theatre has an impressive events guide.
Whoever you are, whether on business or pleasure, you’ll find a warm welcome in Derry
